Assistant conductor Ana María Patiño-Osorio wins 2nd prize in the Malko Competition

News listL'Orchestre de la Suisse Romande is delighted to announce that its assistant conductor Ana María Patiño-Osorio has won 2nd prize in the Malko 2024 Competition. Organised every 3 years by the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra since 1965, this prestigious competition rewards young musical talent in conducting. Ana María Patiño-Osorio, who has been assistant conductor of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande for the past two years, stood out from the 24 candidates by winning 2nd prize in the competition, as well as the Audience Prize and the Special Youth Jury Prize.

Ana María Patiño-Osorio is the OSR's first assistant conductor, appointed for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. Born in Colombia in 1995, Ana María Patiño-Osorio studied conducting at the Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, then with Johannes Schlaefli at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, where she obtained her master's degree in 2021. That same year, she won the National Prize for Best Conductor from the Orquesta Filarmónica de Bogotá. A finalist in the Solti International Conducting Competition in 2020, she also took part in the Tanglewood Festival, and in masterclasses with Herbert Bloomsted, Matthias Pintscher and Bernard Haitink, among others. On 20 April 2024, she was awarded 2nd Prize in the Malko Competition, as well as the Audience Prize and the Special Youth Jury Prize.
