Icologram
A Symphonic Odyssey
An immersive symphonic experience
In 1954, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande pioneered the very first stereophonic symphonic recording, under the baton of its conductor and founder Ernest Ansermet. 70 years later, in 2024, the OSR is once again at the heart of innovation with the first hologram symphony concert ever recorded and broadcast.
In collaboration with Cybel'Art, the Orchestra was initially filmed and captured from every angle: gestures, facial expressions, bow movements, silences - everything was recorded. The technology and set design were extremely precise and meticulous, never before used for a symphony orchestra, and are revealed in our making-of feature.
The matrix of the performance, recorded in September 2023, opens up a whole new world of possibilities: broadcasting a symphony orchestra as a hologram, providing an augmented reality educational experience or immersing yourself in a concert through virtual reality, the orchestra is embracing the phygital era.
Icologram
Endless possibilities
Invented by Cybel'Art in 2019, the icologram® is a revolutionary protocol in digital art and holography. The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande's icologram was created to embody the potential of extended reality (XR) and holography in symphonic music. This innovation now paves the way for immersive, cutting-edge symphonic experiences, marking not only a milestone in ArtTech but also redefining the way we experience music.
It's something exceptional, a testimony that will never grow old. In 50 years' time, you'll be able to project the orchestra today, as if it were alive.
— Steve Roger, general manager of the OSR
