The music

Amidst the impressive backdrop of the Haute-Savoie Alps, flanked by the Salève and the Jura, the setting for our lakeside serenade concert is indeed In the Hall of the Mountain King exemplified by this extract from Peer Gynt, the renowned orchestral music Edvard Grieg wrote for Ibsen’s drama. One of Grieg’s most enchanting pieces Morning Mood, will also be performed. This is sure to spark memories of the OSR’s superb recording with actor Lambert Wilson. Our resident artist will demonstrate the versatility of the saxophone through two capricious, uplifting, whirlwind pieces. The Moorish allure of Debussy’s seldom-heard Rhapsody for Saxophone, sets the stage for the joviality of commedia dell’arte, before sweeping us away with the pulsating rhythms of Brazil, passing through the realm of jazz with Darius Milhaud’s Scaramouche. The performance of Mozart’s 40th Symphony will undoubtedly light up the summer sky.
