The music
One of the greatest musical comedies of all time with the unforgettable songs by Nacio Herb Brown, with lyrics by Arthur Freed woven together by genius screenwriters. The story tells the real-life experience of silent movie stars having the rug pulled from under their feet with the sudden arrival of talking pictures. Besides the famous sequence by the love-struck Gene Kelly singing and dancing in the pouring rain, the film is a festival of humor, witty quips, and extraordinary dance numbers starring Debbie Reynolds, Donald O’Connor and the hilarious Jean Hagen as a ridiculous and pretentious fallen star, all infused with the brilliance of Hollywood’s most stunning colors. The final ballet with the fabulous Cyd Charisse is a film within a film. Adored by audiences the world over and the object of numerous academic theses since its release in 1952, Singin’ in the Rain has long held the status of a cult film, thanks to its glamour, wonderful music, exceptional actors and actresses, and the amazing direction of Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen.
