The HEM, Haute école de musique de Genève and its Neuchâtel site, was founded in 2009. It grew out of the professional classes of three institutions: the Conservatoire de musique de Genève, the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze and the Conservatoire de musique neuchâtelois. The HEM covers a historical and stylistic spectrum ranging from medieval music to contemporary creation, not forgetting music from outside Europe. It attracts over 600 students - from all five continents - supported by some 100 highly qualified professors and lecturers active in artistic and academic life.
Firmly rooted in the region's cultural life, the HEM is an internationally renowned artistic and educational community. Its students and professors collaborate with the OSR on numerous projects, notably by organizing joint orchestral academies and offering a joint course, the DAS in Orchestral Practice, which aims to deepen and broaden students' skills in the field of orchestral practice.
