The Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Jonathan Nott and violinist Midori are flying to Spain from 11 to 17 February after two concerts together in Geneva.
The programme includes Igor Stravinsky's famous Rite of Spring, one of the highlights of the Orchestra's repertoire. Requiring a huge orchestra, the work is a veritable manifesto of modernity, a thunderbolt at its premiere in 1913. In the second half, the Violin Concerto by Jean Sibelius, one of the hobbyhorses of all violinists. Its extreme difficulty, the beauty of its melodies and its evocation of the great outdoors have made it extremely popular. It was this work that Midori played at the age of 11 on her New York debut under the baton of Zubin Mehta.
This programme will be performed on 5 and 6 February at the Victoria Hall, then in Spain for five concerts: in Madrid, the Canary Islands, Barcelona and Zaragoza.
