Of Polish origin, Paul Klecki was a conductor of the Romantic-German tradition who moved to Switzerland at the end of World War II. In 1967 Ansermet asked him to take over as head of the OSR. It was a difficult succession, difficulties heightened by the death of Ansermet less than two years later. Paul Klecki’s three year tenure could be considered as an interregnum, as it was very difficult for the musicians to forget Ansermet’s influence. In spite of the OSR managed to maintain its level of excellence, both in performances and recordings (Lutoslowski, Hindemith). In 1967 Paul Kleck resigned from his post and died three years later.
