Sandra Albukrek

Sandra Albukrek, a graduate of the Arts-Décoratifs in Paris, is a gifted artist, author, director, and scenographer who also skilfully explores the other art mediums of drawing, painting, sculpture, writing, and the performing arts. Building on her collaboration with Pina Bausch, Albukrek takes her artistic exploration to another level, infusing it with newfound intimacy and power. Expanding her creative horizons, she embraces the more intimate canvas of books, where her work has been published by L’école des loisirs and Lior éditions. In 2003, she founded L’Atelier des Lutins, a workshop dedicated to nurturing creativity in both children and adults. It offers a unique pedagogy that has already inspired thousands.

As a creator without boundaries, she intertwines her visual exploration with the harmonies of classical music. In 2018, she pioneered a groundbreaking concept: animated painting films designed for classical music compositions. These are projected during concerts, with Albukrek at the helm, adapting the visuals to the orchestra’s rhythm, making her the only classical music video jockey. Her film Le Carnaval des Animaux, premiered in Geneva in 2021, followed by Carnaval des Animaux Valaisans for the Verbier Festival’s 30th-anniversary Gala in 2023. These animation films feature over two hundred original paintings and captivating narratives filled with magic and humour. An exhibition of her paintings from Carnaval des animaux is scheduled for January 2025 in Paris.

Albukrek’s body of work sparks a visual philosophical dialogue in which colour is a language, forming a collection of curious magical objects and dreamlike bestiaries. Her deeply personal creations, of which she is the producer and artistic director, have showcased at numerous festivals alongside celebrated musicians such as Martha Argerich, Nelson Goerner, Kai Schumacher, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Alexandre Kantorow, Lucas Debargue, Martin Fröst, Daniel Hope, Renaud Capuçon and Gautier Capuçon.
