Tenor René Barbera, graduated at Chicago’s Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, won the first prize at Placido Domingo’s Concorso Operalia in 2011, a Mosca; in the same competition he won the first prize for Zarzuela and the audience award.

He made many important in North America’s theatres: Elvino in La sonnambula at Washington Concert Opera, Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Michigan Opera Theater and Ernesto in Don Pasquale at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola at Seattle Opera and at Los Angeles Opera, Almaviva at Stanislavsky Theatre in Moscow. About his symphonic repertoire, we can mention a recital at the Estivales de Musique of Medoc, in France, Rossini Stabat Mater at the Grant Park Music Festival and at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Händel Messiah with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago, among others.

In 2022-23 René Barbera stars in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia (Count Almaviva) at Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and returns to Dallas Opera as The Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto. He makes his highly anticipated role debut as Fenton in Verdi’s Falstaff at Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, and stars as Elvino (La Sonnambula) at Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège.

His recent engagements include Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Paris, La gazza ladra in Pesaro, La Cenerentola and Les Troyens in San Francisco, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Los Angeles, La fille du régiment at Greensboro Opera, La Cenerentola in Palermo, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Bologna, Il Turco in Italia in Pesaro, L’Italiana in Algeri at New York’s Metropolitan, La Traviata in Palermo, La clemenza di Tito in Saint Louis, Il Barbiere di Siviglia in Paris, Don Pasquale at La Scala., Messa di Requiem with La Scala in Pavia, Hamburg and Paris, La clemenza di Tito in Valencia, I Puritani in Stuttgart, Il barbiere di Siviglia at Amsterdam, Don Pasquale in Wien, Idomeneo in Palermo, La Traviata in Peralada, and many others.
