The tuba player, born in Scotland in 1992, studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Patrick Harrild and at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover with Jens Bjørn-Larsen.
He is currently principal soloist of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and was previously a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also played as guest principal tuba with the Berliner Philharmoniker, London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Tonhalle Orchester Zürich, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, hr-sinfonieorchester. He was also principal tuba of the European Union Youth Orchestra for three years and of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester for two years.

He has also appeared as guest soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra, Exeter Symphony Orchestra, Whitehall Orchestra, Grimethorpe Band, Tredegar Brass Band and the Brighouse and Rastrick Band, and has given recitals throughout the UK. He won BBC Radio 2's Brass Player of the Year 2012, won Second Prize at the European Brass and Percussion Championships in 2014, and more recently 2nd Prize and Winner of the Tuba category of the Internationaler Aeolus Bläserwettbewerb 2019.

He gives masterclasses at the Royal Academy of Music, Royal Northern College of Music, Conservatoire National de Lyon and the Haute École de Musique de Genève, where he has been appointed Professor of Tuba for the year from September 2022. Knight also coached the Australian Youth Orchestra in 2019.

Ross Knight was recently appointed as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. He is a Yamaha, B&S and Melton artist.
